IRSSA Learning Center

IRSSA Foundation's flagship education NGO programme in Meertola, Araria — where 700+ children get a real, daily chance to learn through this community development initiative.

Introduction

A Learning Center for Children the System Overlooks

Before IRSSA arrived, most children in Meertola and its surrounding hamlets had no consistent access to schooling — the nearest government school was often hours away, and many families couldn't spare a child from farm or household work during the day.

The IRSSA Learning Center changed that equation. Built with a two-shift model, it lets working children attend class in the evening while younger students learn in the morning — meeting families where they actually are, instead of demanding they adapt first. It's one part of IRSSA Foundation's broader rural development activities as a non-profit organization in Bihar.

Learning Environment

Built for Focus, Warmth & Safety

Dedicated Classrooms

Permanent brick-built rooms with proper seating, lighting and ventilation — a stable improvement on our earlier open-air sessions.

Low Student-Teacher Ratio

Small batch sizes mean every child gets individual attention, especially those starting several grades behind.

Free Learning Materials

Books, slates, stationery and uniforms are provided at no cost, removing the most common reason for drop-out.

Our Teachers

Local Educators Who Know Every Family by Name

Each Learning Center is anchored by a trained local teacher — often the first person in their own family to have completed higher education — supported by rotating weekend volunteers who bring extra subjects like art, English conversation and sport.

Because our teachers live in the community they serve, they can flag a struggling student, a family in crisis, or a child at risk of dropping out — long before it becomes a lost year.
